Central Government has launched the number 112,
with this single emergency number one can get benefit of all the other existing
helpline numbers. This number is an integration of Police, Fire and women
helpline numbers.
Will 112 work in the US?
Some cell
phone providers in the U.S. will forward any call to the 112 to the correct 911. “Some
carriers automatically translate the 112 number, which is the emergency number
in many European countries to 911 here in the US.
What happens when dialed 112?
When you call an emergency number, you are
redirected to the nearest emergency centre. When you call 112 in India,
depending on where you are, you thus get an operator on the phone from the
emergency centre in the region where you are at that moment.
